Establishing Foreign Contacts

As part of our first blog assignment, we have to connect with an early childhood educator in another country.  How exciting!  I decided that I would like to connect with someone in Latin America but was confused with the NAEYC site.  There were no contact information or emails for anyone in this region.  So I refocused and thought about what I would find interesting such as places that have child brides such as Ethiopia or child labor like India.  I searched for these places and found also no contact information.  Through the UNICEF website I was able to find a contact for Ethiopia.  I emailed them what I was interested in and am still awaiting a reply.  We shall see what happens.  I am really interested in finding out how these countries who are known to not have education for young poor girls work towards equity in education.

Expanding Resources

I chose to look at http://www.zerotothree.org/baby-brain-map.html I actually chose this site for selfish reasons.  Both my children fall into this age group.  The site is specificially for prenatal development until age three.  I especially like the part of the site called Baby Brain Map.  You can put what age group to focus on and it tells you how their brain is developing.  I registered with this website and hope to get some interesting information.  When I do I will send it all your way.

  1. Hi Johan,
I find it interesting that you are looking for a contact relating to child brides. Great choice. I don't think it is selfish of you to chose a website that will help you with your own children. I think it is a great idea! My children are too old to benefit by my new knowledge. I wish I enrolled in school earlier to reap the personal benefits. Maybe I'll have grandchildren some day and use it then. I can only hope!

  2. I also checked out ZerotoThree several times. I teach first grade and my own children are both in college, but I was really drawn to that site for some reason. I wanted to connect with someone in Africa or Australia and would love to teach in a foreign country for a summer. Good luck!

  3. Johan,

Like you, I have chosen the zero to three as my website for similar reasons. I also have a two year old and think the website provides good information. In fact, I attended a workshop given by zero to three a while back. It was a workshop that focused on how stress can effect young children and their brain development. It was a great workshop and very helpful since I work with military families. After revisiting the website, I found that they do have useful information for me both on a personal and professional level.

  4. Johan,

I also frequent the Zero to Three site. I have an in home preschool and my preschoolers fall into that category in addition to one of my own children. The site provides great information for me as a provider and has been helpful in problems that arise with some of my preschool families.
